We are what we buy and we buy what we want to be

WIP III

(2007 – 2008)

A modern construction of the consumption life style, a belief that we have a fixed identity, an identity that is a commodity. We are what we buy and we buy what we want to be. The performance is driven without linearity or drama, articulated through choreography. Integrated with music, words, video and technology it aims to create a fertile ground to stimulate an individual experience for each public member.

The third part of the series, Waste in Process 3, is based on theories of Gilles Deleuze and references in Bergson.

2009-2010

Dealing with some problems presented by these philosophers in this performance QUARTO explores choreography and the question of identity.

WIP is an ongoing process based project in constant mutation, a platform for praxis and research in performing arts with a focus on human development/understanding. In 2006, QUARTO began the WIP Trilogy, through research in anthropology, philosophy, history and sociology based on the idea of interdisciplinarity in the arts.

The research of the performance begun during QUARTOS residence at MDT (Moderna Dansteatern) and SITE in Stockholm during three months 2008, continued at the Fine Arts University in Stockholm. Part of the process took place in Brazil where QUARTO exchanged with Brazilian artist and public during November 2008 – February 2009. A month’s residence in São Paulo where the piece was performed in slums of São Paulo.

Swedish premiere took place at Inkonst in Malmö and C/O MDT Moderna Dansteatern in Stockholm, March 2009.
